Notes

Note

Mary Tinmouth - family legend says she was a bursar on the Cunard line, having served in the WRNS.

From United States immigration records I can see that she worked for Cunard-White Star from 1946 to 1954. Most of those trips were from Southampton to New York, latterly from Liverpool, and mostly on the RMS Mauretania but her last recorded trip was on the MV Britannic (1929). [Note that the immigration records stop in 1957].

The article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RMS_Mauretania_(1938) states that for some of the year the Mauretania cruised in the Caribbean, and that is born out by some of the New York immigration records showing that the ship had departed from Nassau in the Bahamas or Havana, Cuba. She made one or two trips on the Queen Elizabeth. On all the ships' manifests she was recorded as "shop assistant".

I can find no record of her having served in the armed forces. She was discharged from the SS Antonia (Cunard White Star) on 10 Oct 1939, presumably before the AntonIa was requisitioned by the Navy for conversion to an armed merchant cruiser, HMS Wayland. https://www.clydemaritime.co.uk/troon_shipbreaking/s-s-antonia/
